Parade and Car Show

Date: May 16, 2009

Venue: Parade Route Ending at Kennedy Community Center

Expected Attendance:   2500

Union City’s first big parade in ten years is sure to be a crowd pleaser, with floats, marching bands, horses, drill teams, and all the excitement that a hometown audience can handle. Topping off the day will be a special showing of vehicles that will have oldtimers waxing nostalgic and the younger generation drooling over futuristic transportation.

Led by the Grand Marshall, this slice of Americana will feature lavish floats decorated by Bay Area businesses and cultural organizations. Championship performers will also be invited, including the James Logan High School Marching Band, hot as can be after their performance at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Children and families will watch from the sidewalks as top equestrian units, shiny classic cars, fire trucks, local sports teams, and many other groups march by on Union City streets.

The end of the parade will lead families to the park at Kennedy Community Center where they will find a huge car show waiting, featuring a wide variety of vintage cars and trucks.

The show will also offer a sneak peek at the transportation options still in the lab, with futuristic concept vehicles and high-performance tuner cars on display, and a variety of environment-friendly “green” vehicles that are powered by alternative fuels.

What better way to pay tribute the 50th Anniversary than an exciting Parade and Car Show right here in Union City’s own backyard?
