Sports have been fundamental to Union City's competitive spirit since its founding half a century ago. 2009 will offer an opportunity to come enjoy the spectacular Union City Sports Showcase, for both spectator and participants! The multi-event Showcase will feature more than a dozen sports and activities, with talented athletes from Union City taking part in special tournaments and events.
Traditional American and many international sports will be featured at venues located across the City, including the Union City Sports Center, James Logan High School, and Shorty Garcia Park. A sampling of these great events in the planning stages may include:
- A very special Baseball Tournament featuring the first-ever City Championship series between Union City American and Union City National Little Leagues;
- Demonstration Soccer matches conducted at Union City’s three Sports Turf soccer fields;
- The traditional game of Cricket showcased at Union City’s own regulation pitch, located at Seabreeze Park;
- 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 Basketball tournaments, featuring the best hoops talent from the entire East Bay playing at both indoor and outdoor venues;
- A grand pass, punt and kick competition for PeeWee Footballers;
- An Invitational Track and Field meet featuring some of the most outstanding track talent, competing at the James Logan Stadium;
- Fun and competitive Cross Country running races, open to all ages and abilities along Union City’s many trails;
- Short-course Swimming events at the Dan Oden Swim complex, along with a water polo tournament;
- A short course Cycling Criterium to showcase local cyclists;
- A powerful and exciting Volleyball competition;
- Indoor sports such as Badminton, Table Tennis and Billiards;
